the home studio of Mattie McClain

You could say Mattie has always had a passion for horses, and for capturing them on paper. She has always sketched and drawn them ever since she can remember. Growing up in Indiana, riding horses and competing in junior rodeos introduced her to a life of horses and the great outdoors. She knew it was where she belonged and there was no sense in going anywhere else. It became her passion. “In Indiana most places to ride horses were few and far between, and mostly far away, so there were many hours spent on the road going to barrel races and rodeos,” she recalls. “By the time we arrived I had the entire back seat of the truck covered in pieces of paper I had covered in drawings of horses.” Over the years Mattie has accumulated what she calls a “small collection” of western art pieces, mostly done for fun. It wasn’t until recently, when she started getting more requests for commissioned pieces and art prints, that she started promoting all of her art.
